First Grade Self Portrait

First Graders have been working hard on their self-portraits.  Faces and hair have been painted, with their choice of skin, eye, hair  color.  They drew over features with black oil pastel. This week they are decorating the background with water soluble pastels. These fun media can be drawn and then wet to paint. We have crowns ready to go so we can look like royalty. Next week we will begin our
shirts.

Kinder "Me" Books

Each month Kinders create a self portrait. I am saving these to bind into a book at the year end. It is a very developmental project. It  shows a lot of growth in self awareness, fine motor skills, and creativity. On this day, I brought out mirrors. Students are checking their eye color and features for a more accurate representation! So cute!

Second Grade Clay Water Lilies

We spiraled back to Mr. Monet and made wonderful 3-D clay lily pads and flowers. Here students are using tempera paint on their bisque fired sculptures.

Preschoolers!

 A new joy of mine this year is having Preschoolers back at our school. Once a month I get 2 groups into the Art Room for a half hour project. These little people are happily painting some textured bisque fired clay that they made the month before.  With a little string through the holes, I bet they made great Christmas gifts to hang at home!

Second Grade Monet Bridges

I always adore any artwork with children's portraits in them. These lovely Monet bridges have a digital portrait of the student on the bridge admiring the pond at Giverny, France, Monet's home.
The students did a great job of capturing the impressionistic look of the art style!

Fifth Grade Finished Degas Artworks

Fifth grade finished using scratch board to draw a place for their 3-D foil Degas figure. We weren't worried about scale. Students needed to show depth in their room or landscape though.  There is lots of action going on! These few here are pretty neat!

Kinder Armadillos with Secondary colors.

We painted our mixed colors, we read the Jan Brett book, "Armadillo Rodeo". Next we drew a 'guided drawing 'of an armadillo. These were filled in with a mosaic of painted paper squares.  Next we used crayon to color a desert. A watercolor wash was painted over it. Finally we glued the extra squares to create a presentation-ready work of art with a mosaic frame.  I think this idea came from  a Deep Space Sparkle  inspiration, really cute!
