Fifth graders are drawing and coloring dragon eyes. Not only are these cool, but we are learning so much about art as we work on these. First students are learning how artists plan their art. Students had to draw many dragon eyes in their sketchbooks and choose their best or favorite. They needed to use thick and thin lines as they drew. Thick lines are for emphasis. Also they must show a variety of sizes of scales. Variety gives our art interest! Students have learned about Analogous colors on the color wheel. These are neighboring colors, like when one colors a sunset ; red to, red orange to, orange .....
Also these young artists have learned about gradation coloring. Where the colors blend into the next.
We are off to a great start!
