The students learned about mythical creatures from literature called gnomes, in a slide show. They drew gnomes and added something they were carrying. They worked on texture in their Art sketchbooks. Then they received a rolled out slab of clay, tools, water, and a tube. To make the gnome they wrapped the clay around a tube, and created a pointed hat. The leftover trimmed pieces could be used for arms, beard, face, buttons, object. Students were careful to attach clay using score and slip. They dipped a toothbrush in water and scratched each piece to be attached. In a few weeks they will be dry and fired in the kins and ready to glaze.
