Multi class Paper Mache

I love Shel Silverstein's Poetry. His art work and literary imagery lends itself to further artistic productions. One example is to create a giant paper mache sculpture where several classes are involved in cooperative construction, painting, and completion of the group assemblage. The poem can be lettered by students on the actual artwork. These giant sculptures take kids beyond the standard size individual artwork. Problem solving skills, social cooperation, as well as art technical skills abound in the creation of the project. Hanging them in the school promotes the connections between art and literacy.
