Fifth Grade Clay Dragons

A fifth grade class formed clay dragons today. Clay is a challenge here in the art room, because students need to complete the project in one day. There isn't a good way to store partially finished project for a week until the next art class .  I am always amazed at how these young artists rise to the challenge.  Their dragon could be a sea dragon, have wings, horns, and be fierce or cute and cuddly.  It was required that large chunks be hollow, score and slip be used to attach pieces, and a texture be applied to the dragon surface.  It will be several weeks until these are dry and fired. This first step looks great!

Giant Birds

Second grade finished the sharpie part of their large birds. Several began painting with fluorescent tempera paints. Today they painted only the shapes on their birds and legs.  Next week they will use a new kind of paint for the background of the designs. Painting in two stages like this allows students to not smear paint everywhere, but  to follow their design.

Kindergarten Jelly Fish.

A Kinder class finished their cool colored  (blue, purple, and free) Jellies today. They made eyes and silly faces. They proudly held them for photos!

Astronauts at School!

Today third grade started their astronauts.  students are really grasping collage. They keep wanting to draw things, but cut, added, and glued, is the way of collage for this project. A few finished. Here is a sampling of completed, or nearly finished works of art.
