First Grade Raggedy Anns and Andy's

These Raggedys are turning out so cute! Still working on Primary Colors, first graders printed with every day objects. Forks, spools, bottles,  and tooth brushes, were dipped into red tempera paint and pressed onto yellow strips of construction paper. The strips will become a frame for our Raggedys to make them presentation ready. Students trimmed the edges of the strips with creative lines, like zig zags, wavy and castle lines to create interest.  They are so cute! One of my favorite projects for sure! Students also have loved hearing the Raggedy stories too, and holding the giant Raggedy dolls.

Kindergarten Thing one and Thing Two

Kinders have loved hearing the Cat in the Hat books by Dr. Seuss. I love to connect literacy with art! Since we were learning about Primary Colors, we painted our Things with Red and Yellow puck tempera paints. Then we used straws to blow drops of liquid water color paint to make crazy hair! There is more to come to stop back to see the final creation!

Third Grade Gears Completed

The children have enjoyed choosing their final background color for their Gears paintings. After some discussion, they realized that darker colors set off the metallic paint of the gears in a really pretty way..
Students who were finished were grappling with how to connect papers without glue, tape or staples. They will need to know this process to make our 3-D inventions coming up soon. I gave them paper and scissors, and no instructions. They came up with some ingenious attachments! Future engineers!

Fourth Grade Circle Weaving

Weaving has been a challenge for ,many fourth graders. Especially weaving in a circle! But they are getting it and excelling! After the circle loom is woven with the weft threads, and tied off, students get to make an owl. They are learning first hand how texture gives our art PIZZAZ! Felt and a few feathers are the supplies for this. A few children have reached this point. I will post more owls later!

5th Grade Finished Dragon Eyes

Wow! 5th grade went above and beyond with their dragon eye drawings! Their use of thick and thin lines, a variety of sized scales, analogous colors, and gradation of coloring left me amazed. The visual texture in these works of art makes me think I could actually feel the scales! So much effort! These are just beautiful!

Second Grade Insect Completion

A few Second graders finished their insect artworks. They had to carefully cut out their  scratch art insect, glue it to the tissue paper background, glue all of that to a black background, and ues oil pastels to add a pattern in the frame. Now these works are presentation ready! Museum ready even!
We had a mini art show on the white board!

First Grade Raggedy Ann's and Andy's

First grade drew some darling Raggedy's last week. It was an opportune time to review basic shapes as we used them to draw our figures. This week we are learning about Primary colors and painting our Raggedy's using puck temperas. Each class period I am reading aloud a Raggedy story by Johnny Gruelle. As I read, children take turns holding a giant Ann or Andy rag doll. We saw that each Raggedy has a heart with an "I love you" stitched on it.  This is one of my favorite projects, as smiling rag doll faces come to life all over my classroom!  More to come!

Kinders Paint their Poppies

There is something so satisfying about painting something 3-D. Kinders found this to be true as they painted their red Poppy clay bowls. They turned out really cute! Just like the artists who painted them!
